Key Concepts, Skills and Understandings

Students will examine our Australian parliamentary system, including the Australian constitution. They will analyse and interpret a video presenting the history and key elements of the Constitution and will conduct research into our system of government using reliable sources and key vocabulary eg senate and opposition.
Critically analysing their research, students will use the information to create a visual representation of the Australian system of government through an infographic. They will read, examine and determine the elements of the Westminster and Washington systems and their particular influence on our Australian system and constitution. As an additional activity, students can investigate the history and significance of constitutional change over the last century.
Historical concepts addressed in this lesson are sources, cause and effect and significance.
