Key Concepts, Skills and Understandings

In this lesson, students bring together the big ideas of the previous two lessons to consider the importance of language—how what we know, feel and understand very often connects with the words themselves. After activities that introduce them to this idea, students think about what meaning plants and their words might hold for a group of Aboriginal people in WA. Extension activities encourage the students to consider what the loss of language might have meant for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples.

Focus Question

How are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders connected with their land?
How is language part of this connection?
