Key Concepts, Skills and Understandings

Students explore what it means to be an Australian and the factors that contribute to the Australian identity. They use primary sources to understand the Australian identity in the mid 1900s and how this identity has changed over time. The students use statistical analysis to compare the changes in national identity to the ethnic background of the population. They identify well-known organisations and use research to determine their contribution to the development of Australian society in the 20th century.
The key concepts addressed in this lesson are sources, significance, continuity and change.
