Students work in groups to develop a research method that will help them identify the cultural groups living and working in their community (e.g. examining council records, conducting observational street surveys). They consider the importance of developing shared understandings of a task when working in groups, and the need for evidence. After using their chosen method to collect information, they then compare their findings with those of others and evaluate the effectiveness of their chosen approach. They consider: question such as: What information does their research approach give them? What doesn’t it tell them? Do their findings ‘fit’ with others’? Does it matter if they don’t?
