Key Concepts, Skills and Understandings

In this lesson, students will research significant celebrations and commemorations in Australia and note their dates on a calendar. They will play a partner card game to develop their knowledge and understanding of Australia’s special days and conduct an investigation into one particular significant day. Significant days to be investigated include Anzac Day, Harmony Day, Sorry Day and Australia Day. They will also be able to create their own special day and voice their point of view or opinion.
The key concepts addressed in this lesson are significance, sources and cause and effect.
