This lesson gives the students an introduction to the United Nations. They write their own questions about the workings of the UN and conduct independent research to find answers. The UN declaration of the rights of indigenous peoples and several specific international days are addressed and examined for their timing and importance in achieving peace and security for various groups of people around the world. Geographical tools of maps and visual representations are used. The geographical concepts addressed are environment, interconnection, scale, sustainability and change.
How are indigenous peoples and other groups around the world protected and supported?
