Key Concepts, Skills and Understandings

Students are introduced to Antarctica and the fact that it is an uninhabited continent and therefore managed by an alliance of countries, including Australia. They are asked to examine real examples of co-operation between Australia and other nations in this region of the world and write their own summary of these. Students look into the meaning of some of the organisations Australia belongs to and consider the advantages of this. Trade partners are investigated and mapped. Geographical tools of maps, graphs and statistics and visual representations are used. The geographical concepts addressed include place, space, environment, interconnection, scale, sustainability and change.
