Students develop appropriate questions to guide an inquiry about a planning issue at their local government level. They locate and collect information from primary and secondary sources. They organise and represent their data in a range of formats including graphs. They interpret the information and identify and describe patterns and infer relationships. They use the information to make judgements and consider the advantages and disadvantages of one decision over another.
The local inquiry can be done at an individual level, with a partner, in a group or as a whole class. The inquiry journal could be done as one document, as in Google Docs, with everyone adding their research notes to it.
How can people influence their local community?
