In this lesson students examine how people can prevent and minimise the effects of bushfires. They use their geographical knowledge of topography, climate, settlement type, demographics and the organisation and management of places to develop a Bushfire Risk Management Plan. Students may use a variety of platforms for this activity at a group, partner or individual level. The activity can be completed by planning a town or city and drawing a map, building a model or using a builder video game.
The geographical tools integrated in this unit include visual representation, maps and spatial technologies.
The geographical concepts include place, space and interconnection.
