In this lesson, students research the contact between the Aboriginal people of Arnhem land and Makasar traders (Macassans) and consider how cultures can influence each other. In extension activities, students think about the changes and continuities that occur in cultural exchanges, and compare the Makasar contact with that of the contact between the Wik-Mungkan people and the Dutch explorer, Willem Jansz.
