Key Concepts, Skills and Understandings

In this lesson, students will interpret and analyse a video presentation of reasons for the development of the Australian Colonies after 1800.
They will investigate and define the words ‘economic, political and social’ and categorise the reasons for colonisation. Using inquiry questions, they will locate and analyse information from a range of primary and secondary sources. In collaborative learning groups, students will research and analyse the main reasons why the Australian colonies developed and interpret significance e.g., which ‘reason’ was most significant in the development of the colonies. A summative activity will be to develop a narrative to compose a persuasive argument.
Historical concepts addressed in this lesson are sources, continuity and change, significance and cause and effect.
