Students will investigate the meaning of historical significance and develop critical analysis through comparing and contrasting world events and their differing impacts, dependent on location and perspective. They will research the National Museum’s defining moments of the 19th Century and investigate their historical significance. Working collaboratively, students will discuss different points of view within a group (Sticky-note storm) to further identify significant events and developments in the Australian Colonies. As additional activities, they can offer their own opinion and point of view when deciding on a recent defining moment in Australia, therefore connecting their learning to their own experiences and extend their knowledge by researching and creating their own historical quiz.
Historical concepts addressed in this lesson are sources, cause and effect and significance.
